What is Swallowing Therapy?
Swallowing therapy (dysphagia management) is the intervention of swallowing disorders this is done by educating the patient and caregivers regarding the swallowing mechanism, aspiration precautions, safety strategies, postural strategies, as well as exercises to improve the strength, mobility, and coordination of the muscles needed for swallowing. A speech language pathologist (SLP) with training in swallowing disorders will conduct a comprehensive evaluation to help determine goals and best course of intervention.
At Central Health Therapy our SLPs will focus on habilitating and rehabilitating your swallowing function through the use of strategies and exercises to improve your ability to enjoy delicious meals!
